Calum qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2013. In 2019 he left general practice and completed an extended surgical internship under the mentorship of Dr Angus Anderson and Mr Ralph Abercromby, before completing his Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery at Harper Adams University in 2021. Until 2024 he worked as a house surgeon for a large group of corporate practices along the south coast of England, where his caseload was predominantly orthopaedic referrals. Calum has an interest in all things orthopaedic and musculoskeletal, but finds repairing fractures in cats and dogs especially rewarding. In 2023 he returned to the University of Nottingham to work towards an MRes degree looking at objective analysis and its role in preventing stress fractures in canine patients.
